Rome, 7 April (Adnkronos) – Gruppo Cap, the green utility that manages the integrated water service of the Metropolitan City of Milan, is joining Green Energy Day 2025, the national day dedicated to energy transition, renewables and energy efficiency, organised by Coordinamento Free and promoted by Legambiente, with the aim of offering citizens the opportunity to discover first-hand how waste is transformed into resources for the territory.
On Saturday 12 April, from 10:30 to 12, it will be possible to visit the Bresso-Niguarda plant, a concrete example of circular economy where sewage sludge is transformed into biomethane, a renewable and sustainable fuel.
During the guided tour, divided into two 45-minute shifts, participants will be able to discover the activities related to water purification and the anaerobic digestion process, through which sludge is stabilized and transformed into biogas. The latter, rich in methane, is subsequently purified until it becomes biomethane, ready to be fed into the grid as clean energy.
The Bresso-Niguarda plant represents an advanced hub in the production of renewable energy, with an upgrading capacity increased in 2024 to 155 Sm3/hour of biomethane produced. The site was the first purification plant in Italy connected to the national grid with the injection of biomethane produced from sewage sludge, and from 2019 to today approximately 2,8 million cubic meters of biomethane have been produced. Participation in the visit is free but subject to mandatory booking by Wednesday 9 April, by writing to simone.gal@gruppocap.it.
