Roma, 22 mar.

An initiative, adds Riccardo Magi, "to celebrate the manifesto and the idea of three young Italians and Europeans confined by fascism. Europe was revolutionary then and it is revolutionary today. And that is why, then as now, nationalists fear Europe, the manifesto and its authors. And that is why they attack it". And then Luciano Nobili of Iv: "Today we are in Ventotene because the dream that was born here 80 years ago is even more urgent to realize today", that of the United States of Europe. On the island today there were no delegations from the 5 Star Movement or from Azione. For Carlo Calenda "today the most pro-European act that can be done is to build a European NATO". While Giuseppe Conte, busy today with a series of initiatives in Campania, says that "it is not enough to appeal to Ventotene, we must fight on the ground, concretely".

Meanwhile, a controversy has also erupted over a post by the mayor of Terni, Stefano Bandecchi, who shows a photo of a half-naked young woman and writes: "Twenty-eight years old. Our Manifesto has something more". A "real sexist piece of crap", denounces Elisabetta Piccolotti of Avs. And the Manifesto is also at the centre of a back-and-forth between Romano Prodi and a journalist from Quarta Repubblica who today, on the sidelines of an initiative, asked the Professor if he agreed with the extracts of the document read by Meloni in the classroom, those on private property. But what the hell kind of question is that, exclaimed the former prime minister, recalling that the Manifesto dates back to 1941 and was written by someone who had been imprisoned by fascism. While from the right, the attacks and distinctions between the figures of Spinelli and Alcide De Gasperi continue.

"Everyone can do what they want, it is legitimate for the opposition to demonstrate. My Europe is that of Alcide De Gasperi, Robert Schuman and Konrad Adenauer", said Minister Antonio Tajani. Democrat Dario Parrini retorted: "The attempt made today by Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani to contrast the European vision of Alcide De Gasperi and that of Altiero Spinelli is historically unfounded".
