Rome, 18 March (Adnkronos) – "The ReArmEU plan, proposed by the President of the European Commission Von der Leyen, goes in the direction of promoting above all the rearmament of the 27 Member States and must be radically changed, since as presented it does not respond to the urgent need to build a real common defence that guarantees deterrence and a path of common investments in security carried out not to the detriment of the social, cohesion and development priorities of the Union".

This is stated in the PD resolution on the communications of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in view of the European Council.

"Defense cannot be considered a public good separate from social well-being, but is an integral part of a global strategy that aims to ensure not only the physical safety of European citizens, but also their social and economic security: all the more so, the affirmation of nationalisms that are disintegrating European unity is also linked to the perception of economic and social insecurity, as well as to fear of global challenges".
