A new service for families
Starting February 14, Genoa introduces a unique initiative: “Asilo di sera”. This project, which takes place at Asilo Yo-yo, offers parents the opportunity to enjoy a few hours of freedom, while their children are cared for in a safe and stimulating environment. The idea is simple but revolutionary: to allow parents to spend time away from daily responsibilities, without having to resort to expensive babysitters.
How Evening Kindergarten Works
The service is free and supported by the Municipality of Genoa and the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation, which covers the costs until April. Children, aged between three and six, can be welcomed by reservation from 19 to 23 pm. It is important to note that the little ones must arrive already fed, as no meals are provided during their stay. Each evening can host a maximum of ten children, followed by professional educators from the Tagersmutter Arcobaleno cooperative. This is not a simple babysitting service, but an opportunity for children to socialize and have fun together, away from screens and family routines.
A growing need among parents
According to Michele De Negri, the project manager, many couples with young children have given up on moments of leisure and relaxation. The “Asilo di sera” responds to a practical need: parents can finally treat themselves to an evening out, whether at a restaurant or a movie, without having to worry about organizing an emergency plan for the children. This service not only relieves parents' stress, but also promotes the well-being of children, who can interact and have fun in a safe environment.
A growing trend in Italy
This initiative is not isolated: in Italy, several nurseries are adopting similar models. From Monza to Salerno, many cities are experimenting with opening their facilities in the evening to meet the needs of modern families. In Milan, for example, some schools offer night services on request, while in Trieste 24-hour access is guaranteed. These experiences demonstrate that “Asilo di sera” is a growing trend, which could become a common practice in many other Italian cities.
