A system of favors under investigation
In recent months, an investigation has exposed a vast corruption system linked to free tickets on Tirrenia-Cin ships. Among the names that have emerged, that of the former president of the Sardinia Region, Christian Solinas, stands out; although not under investigation, he is among the beneficiaries of these trips.
According to the investigation documents, Solinas allegedly used the tickets to attend the Genoa Boat Show in 2023. This raises questions about the transparency and integrity of the institutions involved.
Illustrious beneficiaries and a corrupt mechanism
The investigations, coordinated by prosecutor Walter Cotugno, revealed that the Onorato group, owner of the shipping companies, would have distributed almost 34.000 free tickets in six years. The investigators speak of an "impressive corruption mechanism", involving strategic officials for the companies. Among the beneficiaries are well-known names, such as the general commander of the port authority, Nicola Carlone, and Roberto Isidori, deputy chief of staff of Matteo Salvini. The comedian Beppe Grillo and his son Ciro are also among the users of these tickets, but they are not under investigation.
Legal consequences and ongoing investigations
The investigations have brought to light a second strand involving about forty people, including magistrates and public officials. Achille Onorato, one of the main suspects, has chosen not to answer the prosecutor's questions. Despite the serious accusations, no precautionary measure has been requested for him. In the main strand of the investigation, the prosecutor has already requested two house arrests and eleven interdictions. On Wednesday, the preliminary investigations judge, Silvia Carpanini, will conclude the preventive interrogations and decide whether to accept the requests of the prosecutor, while the public opinion anxiously awaits the developments of this scandal involving leading figures in politics and institutions.
