Adnkronos Rome, 23 June (Adnkronos) – "The Guardia di Finanza is a modern police force with general competences in economic and financial matters, which is the heart of the mission that the Government and Parliament have entrusted to it, in the pursuit of the general interest, with actions to combat the illicit use of public money; to monitor the correct allocation of national and community funds that are allocated for the relaunch of the country; to prevent and repress criminal infiltration in the markets and more generally to intervene directly to combat illicit activities that damage the healthy fabric of the economy.
A role, that of the Fiamme gialla, of significant social implications, aimed at ensuring protection for economic operators and the many honest taxpayers". This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, meeting at the Quirinale a delegation of the Guardia di Finanza, led by the commander, Andrea De Gennaro, on the occasion of the 251st anniversary of the foundation of the Corps.
"A role - the Head of State recalled - that the Corps also exercises beyond the mainland, based on the maritime police powers attributed to it by law: trafficking in human beings, drugs, weapons, tobacco, counterfeit goods often begins overseas and reverberates on the national territory, often being headed by international criminal organizations. Also in this area the Fiamme Gialle have played and play their precious contribution in support of the designated structures, also doing their utmost to save human lives".
"Your professionalism is appreciated and recognized everywhere, so much so that it has become a reference model even at an international level. In an era in which criminal phenomena are increasingly less limited by national and community contexts, but cross any border, the contribution offered at a European level to an ever-increasing legality is of great value," concluded Mattarella.
