Rome, April 26 (Adnkronos) – The funeral of Pope Francis, "the people's Pope", was celebrated today in the Vatican, drawing hundreds of thousands of people into the streets to honor a legacy of compassion and global unity. GKSD President Kamel Ghribi joined numerous world leaders and prominent figures, including American, European and African heads of state, to reflect on the necessary peace efforts and the great moral and concrete contribution of the Pontiff.
Ghribi, who had the pleasure of personally meeting the Pontiff, being honored by his friendship and sharing thoughts on human brotherhood, praised the visionary intuition of signing the Abu Dhabi Manifesto in 2019, a courageous step towards interfaith dialogue. "He was a man of peace who transformed faith into a bridge, not a barrier. His call for unity resonates even after his death, when adversaries stand side by side, united in grief and reverence," Ghribi noted.
During the ceremony, the GKSD President exchanged views with several world leaders, including the Prime Minister of Kenya, the President of Congo, the Prime Minister of Qatar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tunisia, the President of Bangladesh, the President of Kosovo, the President of Lebanon, the Prime Minister of Greece and high-ranking United Nations dignitaries, including Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission. “I hope that peace in Ukraine, after the meeting in the Vatican between Trump and Zelensky, will be the first miracle from up there of Pope Francis,” Kamel Ghribi said after the conclusion of the funeral ceremony.
