Giorgia Meloni announces investments in workplace safety

The Italian government allocates over a billion to improve safety in the workplace

Significant investments in workplace safety

On the eve of May Day, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced an important initiative to improve workplace safety in Italy. During a press conference, she revealed that the government has found further 650 million euro to be invested in concrete measures, bringing the total available resources to over 1 billion and 200 million euros.

These funds are in addition to the 600 million euro already foreseen by the Inail tenders, intended to co-finance business investments in safety matters.

Incentives and disincentives for businesses

Meloni stressed the importance of strengthening the system of incentives and disincentives for companies, based on their safety conduct. Particular attention will be paid to the agricultural sector, where working conditions can be particularly risky. The aim is to create a safer working environment for all workers, reducing the number of accidents and improving general safety conditions.

Teacher protection and additional measures

In addition to investments in workplace safety, the government has announced specific measures to protect teachers. Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara has stated that a mandatory arrest in flagrante delicto for those who commit personal injuries to teachers and school principals. Furthermore, the penalties for injuries to school personnel will be increased, going from a maximum of 3 years to a maximum of 5 years in prison for minor injuries.

These measures are part of a broader package of measures that the Council of Ministers is examining, including interventions to address emergencies caused by floods and bradyseismic phenomena. The government is committed to ensuring a safer working environment and protecting professionals working in the education sector, a fundamental step for the future of work in Italy.
