Rome, March 25 (Adnkronos) – “Better to take a small step forward in protecting workers’ rights than to remain still. But this law is insufficient and we regret that the government, even with the orders of the day, has not wanted to make specific commitments. Our work will continue in the Senate to expand protections and improve the quality of life of those with oncological, chronic or disabling diseases”.

Thus the president of the deputies of Italia Viva Maria Elena Boschi declaring in the Chamber the vote in favor of the unified text.

"The European oncology plan includes concrete actions to avoid discrimination and our national plan includes combating the phenomenon of abandoning work in order to seek treatment. We are not starting from scratch, but today we would have needed a more courageous text that is more suited to the needs of workers. We at Italia Viva have put forward many proposals such as the obligation for the employer to communicate the end of the sick leave period at least 30 days in advance, in order to avoid the risk of dismissal, equalization between public and private workers, recognition of agile work and the extension of hours for medical visits. But above all we ask that the part of the law on oncological oblivion that concerns active policies for entering the world of work be implemented and to avoid discrimination. Because - he concludes - today we must address the issue not only of how long we live, which remains the priority, but of how we live. I hope that the Senate does not miss the opportunity to make a law that truly helps us live better".
