This morning, at the Court of Assizes of Cagliari, a life sentence was requested for Fabrizio Congiu, 53 years old, accused by the public prosecutor Andrea Massidda of the murder of his former landlord, Venerato Sardu, 75 years old.
The episode occurred in February 2023 in the Is Mirrionis neighborhood. The defense attorney, Stefano Pisanu, tried to obtain an acquittal for Congiu on the robbery charge, with the intent of eliminating the aggravating circumstance that prevented his client from accessing the abbreviated trial.
The sentence and the investigations
The verdict will be announced at the hearing scheduled for November 20. Sardu was discovered lifeless in his home on Via Ogliastra; investigations immediately revealed that it was a homicide and shortly after Congiu was arrested.
The circumstances of the crime
The victim was the owner of the entire building, while Congiu lived in a rental on the third floor, but had been evicted for non-payment. According to the charges, the 53-year-old killed Sardu during an attempted robbery. He entered the ground-floor apartment with the intention of stealing money from him, but the situation got out of hand and he inflicted fatal blows with a hammer and a knife.
