Naples, 25 Jan. (askanews) – The Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio was welcomed to Naples for the inauguration of the judicial year by protests from the ANM judges against the separation of careers, but also applause.
In the morning, the judges gathered outside the old courthouse of the Campania capital to demonstrate their dissent after the first approval by the Chamber (on January 16) of the Constitutional reform of Justice. On their chests, a tricolor cockade, in their hands a copy of the Constitution and a sign with a phrase by Piero Calamandrei. Then inside the courtroom, copies of the Constitution were clearly visible during the Italian national anthem.
As soon as the minister began his speech, the robes left the Hall of Busts in protest.
"The second, a little more painful, is that someone might think that this reform is punitive for the judiciary. Look... all opinions are welcome, all expressions of dissent, I thank you for an extremely composed demonstration, dissent is the salt of democracy", Nordio underlined.
Yet, among those present, there were those who applauded the minister loudly. A consensus expressed above all by the lawyers and the public who crowded the immense hall.
In the press conference called at the end of the ceremony, the ANM district council of Naples highlighted that "over 400 magistrates, including some pensioners, took part in the protest".
