A controversial case
The Aosta prosecutor's office recently closed an investigation that raised questions about the conduct of medical staff at the Parini regional hospital. At the center of the case is a CT scan performed on a cat belonging to Dr. Gianluca Fanelli, head of the Radiology and Interventional Neuroradiology unit. The situation is further complicated by the fact that Fanelli is also the husband of Senator Nicoletta Spelgatti, a member of the Lega party.
The accusations and investigations
The investigations conducted by the NAS Carabinieri of Aosta have led to serious accusations against Fanelli and other members of the staff, including Massimiliano Natrella, head of Radiology, and Giulia Sammaritani, a radiology technician. The accusations include misappropriation of money or goods, unauthorized practice of the profession, fraud against the State for unrelated stampings and interruption of public service. This last accusation has also been brought against another laboratory technician.
The day of the accident
According to reconstructions, on January 20, Dr. Fanelli went to the Radiology department to have his cat undergo a CT scan, even though the veterinarian had already declared that it was not necessary. This led to a delay in the tests of other patients, raising the hypothesis of interruption of public service. Furthermore, it was discovered that Fanelli had stamped his presence in the department, while in reality he was at the veterinarian's, which fueled accusations of fraud against the State.
The consequences of the affair
The situation has had significant media coverage, not only locally but also internationally. The Aosta Valley Health Authority has started an investigation to clarify the facts and take any measures. The story has highlighted not only the problems related to the management of medical personnel, but also the need for greater transparency and responsibility within healthcare facilities.
