Rome, May 14 (Adnkronos) – "But why did she let herself be fooled like this?" Not even Giuseppe Conte's accusations moved Giorgia Meloni, who maintained an enviable 'aplomb' throughout the duration of the prime minister's time in the Chamber. In a debate that, with a few exceptions, slipped for over an hour between back and forth with the opposition but without major jolts, betraying the expectation created by the year and more of the premier's absence from the chamber at the Premier's question time.
The Avs group had promised sparks, with Marco Grimaldi sitting on the benches wrapped in a keffiyeh. In front of Angelo Bonelli, who was questioning her about Gaza, Meloni certainly did not shy away from the debate. But when the Verdi leader pressed her: "It's useless for you to make gestures!", the prime minister remained almost impassive listening with folded arms, limiting herself to shrugging: "I don't make any gestures". Meloni had all the ministers at her side but not her deputies Tajani and Salvini. So the Minister of Economy Giancarlo Giorgetti, with whom she often talked, acted as her 'sparring partner' during the Qt.
The first 'boo' from the opposition against Meloni was raised when the Prime Minister explained: "Now I speak as a mother". But she took it and, without picking up, continued: "Then I speak as Prime Minister...". Halfway through Prime Minister's time, the dramatic turn of events: a ghost materializes in the chamber. An absolute first in the history, however long, of Montecitorio. It is Riccardo Magi, who had not been allowed to present his interpellation.
(Adnkronos) – The secretary of +Europa manages to take a few steps, almost reaching the government benches to shout at the prime minister: "Do you remember President Meloni when you accused governments of silencing referendums? It was 2016 and 2022!". Meloni is amused and, smiling, follows with her eyes the scene of Magi who, expelled, is carried out of the chamber by parliamentary assistants. It takes a moment, and calm returns.
It's the first 'Eve against Eve' of the prime minister's time, when Maria Elena Boschi points the finger at the Prime Minister: "I'm telling you as a woman: you're not up to it!", amid applause from Italia Viva and also from the PD deputies. But Meloni, once again, remains impassive. The prime minister is a little harsher when she attacks Giuseppe Conte, with a crescendo of accusations against the government and the Prime Minister on the expenses for rearmament. With him, Meloni 'crosses swords' and also responds with irony: "He will be one of the many Giuseppis that we have learned to know...".
When the M5S leader 'calls' a minute of silence for the victims of Gaza, only the M5S and PD deputies gather and stand up in the chamber. "Are you still sitting?", Conte asks Meloni who, here too, lets it fall, while the cry of "shame!" rises from the 5 Star Movement benches. The premier time is moving towards the end, with a 'schedule' that seems to have been artfully written, with the most anticipated duel: Elly against Giorgia. Schlein starts off strong, talking about healthcare and waiting lists. Meloni raises the tone of her reply, talking about "propaganda" (amid boos from the PD deputies) and "macumbe". But it is the secretary of the PD who manages to prevent the 'clear path' of the prime minister, until that moment very controlled in the face of the arrows of the opposition leaders: when Elly accuses the government of the cuts to healthcare, Giorgia does not hold back: she abandons the 'British' demeanor maintained until that moment and, with broad gestures, waving her index finger, exclaims: "It's not true. It's not true, it's a lie!".
