The news of Cheptegei's death was made public by Donald Rukare, president of the Ugandan Olympic Committee: “May her gentle soul rest in peace. We strongly condemn violence against women. This was a vile and senseless act that led to the loss of a great athlete.”, wrote on the X platform.
