This event is a precious opportunity to listen, discuss and share a common vision of the future. Only together - companies, institutions and citizens - can we achieve a lasting positive impact".
“Italy confirms itself as a laboratory of innovation in sustainability for the Group,” began Simone Targetti Ferri, Sustainability Director L'Oréal Italia. “With our roadmap we are working to integrate circular practices into processes and products, promoting the active involvement of consumers. The ecological transition is a shared responsibility in which every gesture counts and for this reason L'Oréal is deeply committed to social and environmental sustainability.” In the context of growing environmental and social challenges, L'Oréal has decided to accelerate its transformation by 2030 towards a model that respects the limits of the planet and strengthens its commitments to sustainability and inclusion. With regard to managing the climate transition in compliance with the limits of the planet: achieving 100% use of renewable energy in the sites and stores managed; reducing absolute greenhouse gas emissions scope 1 and 2 by 57% compared to 2019; reduce absolute scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions from purchased goods and services, upstream transportation and distribution, and business travel by 28% compared to 2019.
Preserving nature includes ensuring that at least 90% of biobased materials used in formulas and packaging are sustainably sourced and that more than 75% of ingredients in formulas come from nature or recycled materials; using 100% recycled or reused water for industrial purposes in factories; and offering water-saving products or technologies to enable consumers in water-stressed markets to meet their hygiene and beauty needs. In addition, the L’Oréal Group is working to integrate circularity into every stage of product development. This includes lightweight packaging, using recycled and bio-based materials, reducing the use of plastic and introducing circular solutions such as refillable products. By 2030, the objectives are: to reduce the use of virgin plastic in product packaging by 50% in absolute terms compared to 2019; 50% of all materials used in product packaging must come from recycled or bio-based sources; reduce the packaging intensity of our products by 20% compared to 2019.
As a leading beauty company, L’Oréal is deeply connected to the communities in which it lives, works and operates, such as helping 100.000 people from disadvantaged communities access the world of work; having 100% of our strategic suppliers sign a commitment to respect the living wage with a time-bound action plan; and supporting 10 million people through our brands’ social engagement programs.
