Two migrant landings in Calabria in one day

Coast Guard rescues migrants from Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan

Two significant landings in Calabria

Today, Calabria recorded two major migrant landings, with a total of 125 people arriving on its coasts. The rescue operations were carried out by the Coast Guard, which guaranteed immediate assistance to the migrants. The first landing took place in Roccella Ionica, where 84 migrants arrived, while the second took place in Crotone, with the arrival of 41 people.

Details on migrants in Roccella Ionica

In the Roccella Ionica group, the migrants come mainly from Iran and Iraq. Among them, there are 48 men, 19 women and 17 minors, some of whom are unaccompanied. It is important to note that among the migrants there are also two disabled people with mobility difficulties. This group was intercepted offshore, while traveling on board a sailing boat that left six days ago from an unspecified location in Turkey. The situation of these migrants highlights the difficulties and risks they face in trying to reach Europe.

The second landing in Crotone

Regarding the Crotone landing, the 41 migrants were identified as 35 adults, including thirty men and five women, and six minors, five of whom were unaccompanied. The nationalities of these migrants include Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran. Again, the Coast Guard played a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the migrants, coordinating operations with the Prefecture and the Immigration Office of the Police Headquarters.

Reception and assistance to migrants

After initial health checks, the migrants were transferred to the Isola Capo Rizzuto reception center. This facility is designed to provide support and assistance to those arriving in Italy in search of a better life. The management of these landings is crucial to ensure that migrants' human rights are respected and that they receive the necessary care. The current situation in Calabria reflects an ongoing migration crisis, which requires attention and coordinated action by local and national authorities.
