Adnkronos Rome, 18 March (Adnkronos) – "We are following with great attention the preliminary appeal before the Court of Justice, specifically concerning detention in Albania, but not only, and I must say that I was favorably impressed by the fact that the majority of EU member states, as well as the European Commission itself, intervened, between the written and oral phases of the case, to support Italy's position on the concept of safe country of origin.
The hope, of course, is that the Court will avert the risk of compromising the repatriation policies, not only of Italy but of all the Member States and of the European Union itself, because it would mean undermining the Schengen system and the stability of Europe itself". This was stated by the President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, in her communications to the Senate in view of the next European Council.
"But in any case - the Prime Minister added - we are proposing to the Commission to bring forward as much as possible the entry into force of what is foreseen in the new Pact on Migration and Asylum on the definition of a safe country of origin, also to shed definitive light on a very controversial issue and the subject, as you know, of judicial measures with an often ideological flavour".
