Road Check and Surprising Discovery
During a routine road check, the Guardia di Finanza of the Provincial Command of Lecce made an incredible discovery. A 46-year-old man of Albanian origin was stopped while traveling on a state road that connects Lecce to Brindisi. Inside his car, the military found an envelope containing packages of money, strictly vacuum-packed, for a total value of 230 thousand euros. This first discovery raised suspicions about the illicit origin of the sum.
Search and further discoveries
Considering the subject's pending legal proceedings regarding narcotics and the disproportionate assets compared to his statements, the financial police decided to investigate further. After the initial seizure, a search was carried out at the man's home. Here, the military found a further sum of money, equal to 633.850 euros, hidden inside a closet. This sum was also divided into bundles of banknotes of various denominations.
Report and alleged crimes
In total, the operation led to the seizure of over 863.000 euros. The man was reported for money laundering and fraudulent transfer of assets. Investigations are still ongoing, with the aim of identifying any accomplices involved in this illicit operation. The Guardia di Finanza continues to monitor the territory to prevent and combat activities of this type, underlining the importance of legality and economic security.
