A tragic accident on Colle delle Traversette
A dramatic accident has shocked the community of mountain enthusiasts in the province of Cuneo, where a ski mountaineer lost his life during an excursion on Monviso. The alarm was raised by his hiking companion, who witnessed helplessly the man's fall from Colle delle Traversette.
This tragic event has highlighted the risks associated with this sport, which, although fascinating, can be extremely dangerous in adverse conditions.
Alpine Rescue Intervention
Rescue teams intervened promptly, but weather conditions complicated operations. The emergency helicopter was unable to approach due to thick fog, forcing Alpine Rescue technicians to reach the site of the accident on foot, equipped with skis and sealskins. After an arduous search, the man's body was located at about 2.700 meters above sea level, an operation that required great professionalism and determination on the part of the rescuers.
Body recovery and partner support
Once located, the body was recovered and transported by land to Pian del Re, where it was handed over to the competent authorities. In the meantime, the technician from the Alpine Rescue Operations Center provided telephone assistance to the man's partner, guiding her down to a safe place. This episode underlines the importance of preparation and caution during mountain excursions, where even a moment of distraction can have fatal consequences.
