The Newborn's Clandestine Journey
Investigations and arrests
Authorities arrested a Moroccan couple, who were seriously suspected of having smuggled the baby into the country. Two other Moroccans were arrested for aiding and abetting, as they were temporarily hosting the child. Investigations revealed that the baby had been transported in a shopping bag, without any registration, during a boat trip from Tangier to an Italian port. This long and dangerous journey caused the little girl health problems, leading her to be hospitalized upon arrival.
The newborn's condition
Fortunately, the newborn was found in good health, but her journey raised questions about how such a fragile life could be endangered in this way. Investigators discovered that the child's biological mother had given her to the suspect, with the intention of transporting her to Italy and selling her. This case highlights not only the personal drama of a newborn, but also the human trafficking networks that operate between Morocco and Italy.
The future of the newborn
After being admitted to hospital for medical checks, the newborn will be transferred to a foster family. Authorities are working to ensure that the little girl receives the care and attention she needs, while investigations continue to dismantle the trafficking networks that put her life in danger. This case is a call for greater vigilance and protection for the most vulnerable, so that similar tragedies do not happen again in the future.
