After numerous violent acts, the Surveillance Court imposes severe restrictions.

A necessary measure

In the heart of Rome’s Balduina neighborhood, residents can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The 47-year-old Ukrainian, known as “Ostacoloman” or “tree-man,” has been placed under special surveillance by the Surveillance Court. This measure, requested by Rome’s police chief, comes after a series of assaults and violent behavior that have terrified residents. The man, who wandered the streets dressed in rags and leaves, has shown a clear propensity for violence and disregard for the rules.

A disturbing criminal past

Ostacoloman's criminal career is studded with serious crimes. Convicted several times for personal injury, possession of weapons and damage, he has accumulated a long list of criminal records. Despite several oral warnings and urban Daspos, his behavior has not improved. The most recent episodes, including the attack on a woman and her child, have prompted the authorities to take drastic measures. In June, the man threatened a mother with a stick, while in September he damaged cars and attacked police officers with shards of glass.

Surveillance measures

With the new decree, Ostacoloman will no longer be able to stay in the municipality of Rome. The authorities have clarified that in the event of violation of the ban, arrest may occur even without the crime being committed. This measure has been welcomed by citizens, who hope that special surveillance can finally put an end to a period of fear and insecurity. The Rome Police Headquarters has emphasized the importance of protecting the community and ensuring public safety, highlighting how special surveillance represents a fundamental step in this direction.
