Occupation of the Ancipa water purification plant with protesters

Over two hundred protesters block the water purification plant, causing damage and inconvenience.

The protest and its causes

In recent days, the water situation in Sicily has reached a critical point. Over two hundred people, including mayors of five municipalities in the Enna area, occupied the Ancipa water purification plant, forcing the police barriers. This action, which saw the active participation of representatives of local institutions, was motivated by growing dissatisfaction with the management of water resources in the region. The protesters denounced the lack of drinking water and the need for immediate intervention by the competent authorities.

The damage caused by the demonstration

The Siciliacque company filed a complaint with the Troina Carabinieri, reporting significant damage to the systems. Among the tampering, the closure of the valve that feeds the Ancipa Basso aqueduct stands out, interrupting the water flow to the municipalities of Caltanissetta and San Cataldo. This interruption made it impossible for operators to record the flow variations, forcing them to monitor the situation only visually. The lack of water has hit local communities hard, creating inconvenience and concern among citizens.

Siciliacque's response and future prospects

Siciliacque has communicated that, as a technical entity, it has always tried to minimize the inconvenience and to follow the indications of the authorities. However, the company has emphasized that it is not responsible for defining the strategies to address the water crisis, but is limited to carrying out the requested interventions. In a note sent to the Control Room for the water emergency, Siciliacque has asked for clarifications on the planning of future activities regarding water supplies. The situation remains tense, and local authorities are called upon to find rapid solutions to guarantee access to drinking water for all citizens.
