Geneva (Switzerland), June 13 (askanews) – United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres calls for “maximum restraint” following Israel’s attacks on Iran, according to United Nations spokesperson Alessandra Vellucci.
“The Secretary-General condemns any military escalation in the Middle East. He is particularly concerned about the Israeli attacks on nuclear facilities in Iran, while talks between Iran and the United States on the status of Iran’s nuclear program are ongoing.”
“The Secretary-General recalls the obligation of United Nations Member States to act in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law. The Secretary-General calls on both sides to show maximum restraint, avoiding at all costs a descent into a deeper conflict, a situation that the region can hardly afford,” Vellucci added.
