Palermo, June 18 (Adnkronos) – Bathing prohibited in Sferracavallo (Palermo) due to toxic algae. "Following the monitoring by Arpa, carried out on June 16, in which a concentration of Ostreopsis (toxic algae) exceeding the limit value was found, I signed an order prohibiting bathing along the coast of Sferracavallo". The announcement was made by Fabrizio Ferrandelli, Councillor for Hygiene of the Municipality of Palermo.
"Within a week, Arpa will carry out new surveys with the hope that the levels of toxic algae concentration have returned below the limits established by law, so as to revoke the ban that is necessary at this time to protect people's health - he adds - This phenomenon, as explained in the ordinance, depends exclusively on natural factors independent of land management activities and I would like to underline that the microbiological parameters of the samplings carried out by Asp just a few days ago fall within the limits established by law, demonstrating how the measures adopted by Mayor Lagalla and the administration, together with the Port Authority, the Nopa of the municipal police, Amap and Asp are having the desired effects against the pollution of the Sferracavallo sea in recent years. We will continue to constantly monitor the sampling activities of the coast in the hope of restoring bathing as soon as possible".
