Rome, November 14 (Adnkronos) – "Three budget changes into his mandate, Minister Piantedosi continues to make announcements, but the results are nowhere in sight. Regarding police hiring, he's been repeating the same promises for months, passing off the normal, already planned, turnover as an extraordinary plan, while the staffing shortages remain undiminished."

This is according to the Democratic Party's justice minister and member of the Chamber of Deputies' Constitutional Affairs Committee, Matteo Mauri.

Regarding the Local Police reform, he talks about a 'home stretch,' but it's been stalled for three years in the First Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, blocked by the majority itself due to internal divisions. It's paradoxical that they continue to make announcements when the stalemate is their own fault. He then demands the transfer of €105 million to municipalities for expenses incurred in 2023 and 2024 for unaccompanied foreign minors, but he can't boast about what he should have done two years ago, after having even informed mayors that he would only reimburse a third of the costs incurred. On crime, Piantedosi relies on comparisons with 2015 to claim that crime is decreasing, ignoring the most relevant data: since 2022, that is, with the Meloni government, crime has increased every year compared to the previous year. Today, he claims there is no security emergency, whereas in previous years he claimed one with alarmist tones despite lower numbers than the current ones.

"The truth is that the government's security policies aren't working. And while problems are mounting, the Interior Ministry is only pumping out propaganda, recycled old ads, and a shell game about crime."
