Rome, October 14 (Adnkronos) – "The international situation is there for all to see and has impacted Italian politics, the calendars of the Italian and European parliaments. It has influenced and will influence the political debate. In the coming days, the PSE congress will take place, from which I hope the various countries' delegations will emerge with unified positions on key issues, from the Middle East, with the ceasefire and Trump's shows, to Ukraine.
Within this framework, we, as the Democratic Party and with the other opposition parties, are trying to discuss our country's economic problems and the budget." This was stated by the president of the Democratic Party senators, Francesco Boccia, introducing the assembly of the Democratic Party parliamentary group at Palazzo Madama.
On this point, I would like to emphasize the important joint work we've done with the other opposition forces: we've discussed wages and industrial production, and we've forced Giorgetti into a debate on the DPFP. The social issue is the country's greatest emergency, as ISTAT (National Institute of Statistics) demonstrates today with its poverty data. A job is no longer enough to live with dignity. Within this scenario, wages are the issue weighing most heavily on our country. The newspapers say so, and so do the employers' associations. Therefore, not only the minimum wage, which is crucial, but also the issue of workers' and families' purchasing power as a whole must become our priority. We must bring the discussion back to this while the right is sweeping the dust under the rug, fueling ideological conflict. The parliamentary agenda for the coming weeks highlights the majority's haste and pressure on the constitutional reform of the justice system. They want to push us to a referendum, which will become one of the political issues of early 2026.
"The divided majority continues to be ambiguous regarding end-of-life issues, unsure how to move forward, procrastinating on timelines and deadlines. For us, the centrality of the National Health Service remains fundamental, as it must remain the framework within which to 'act' on end-of-life decisions. We'll see how the committee's work progresses, ready to bring the measure to the floor where there may be room for maneuver in the debate. The budget will arrive in the coming weeks, and today is the Council of Ministers meeting, where we hope there will be a real debate after the majority's shameful attitude last year."
