Adnkronos Rome, May 13 (Adnkronos) – “Minister Lollobrigida has today exceeded all limits. Not only has she openly declared that she will not vote in the referendums promoted by associations, movements, citizens and political forces, but she has also dismissed everything as an “internal issue within the Democratic Party”. The minister’s words certify the right’s contempt for citizens and democracy”.
This is how Marco Furfaro, member of the national secretariat of the Democratic Party, comments on the statements of the Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida, who announced his abstention from the referendums.
“Minister, what country do you think you live in? You sit in a government of the Republic, not in a private club. Referendums are not a party game. They are the tool with which the people can decide directly on crucial issues such as citizenship, work, rights. And faced with this right, sacrosanct and guaranteed by the Constitution, a minister of the Republic has the duty to respect and promote democratic participation. Not to sabotage it".
"We will be at the referendums. And we invite everyone to vote. Because participation is the heart of the Republic. Abstention is the refuge of those who experience democracy as a nuisance."
