Airyn De Niro opened up to the magazine “Them”, revealing himself to be transgender and how much of her transition was due to the influence of black women on her. She also says that being transgender means “be honest and open, especially in public spaces like social media.” Airyn also talked about her physicality: “I didn't even fit that standard of beauty, which is skinny, white, muscular, or just super fit, masculine. Growing up I was always told I was too much or too little of something: too big, not skinny enough. Not black enough, not white enough. Too feminine, not masculine enough. It was never just 'you're perfect, you're made just the way you are'. There is a difference between being visible and being seen. I have been visible. I don’t think I have been seen yet.”
