Some parts of cornice collapsed from church in Rome
As specified by ANSA, shortly after 12, a piece of the cornice of the church of San Giacomo, initially thought to belong to the church opposite, Santi Nomi di Gesù e Maria, comes off and falls onto the pavement.
On site were patrols from the I Centro Group of the Local Police and firefighters who cordoned off the area.
“There were absolutely no critical issues, this summer some inspections had been carried out because the church is among those included in the PNRR plan, and nothing had been detected. It's a miracle that nothing happened., it could have been a tragedy, there are always people in front of the church”, Don Giuseppe Trappolini, parish priest of the church, told ANSA.
Currently the churchyard and the place of worship have been cordoned off and closed to the public. In the next few days, valances and scaffolding will have to be put up to make the transit of people safe:
“I hope that these works can be done within the next week”, added the parish priest.

The event could have turned into a tragedy, in front of the church there is always a large crowd: faithful, passers-by and tourists, and even more so today, All Saints' Day.
Un 51 year old man resident in the area, would have remained slightly wounded in the leg and was taken to the Fatebenefratelli hospital in code green for any necessary dressings.
Why the cornice collapsed is not yet clear. Surveys are underway to determine the reasons for the collapse.
