Workers' protection: a fundamental right to be actively promoted and with stricter measures for those who do not comply with regulations. 19,8% increase in reports of occupational diseases in 2023

Workers' protection is a fundamental right and not just a burden, as Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni emphasized during the launch of Inail's 2023 Annual Report. "Promoting this right must be a constant priority, with everyone actively involved," she said. The Prime Minister specified that "it is necessary to increase prevention measures, carry out more checks and introduce more severe sanctions for those who do not comply with the regulations."

Regarding data on occupational diseases, the total number exceeded 72 thousand reports, showing an increase of 19,8% compared to the previous year. Fabrizio D'Ascenzo, president of Inail, presented this information during the report. "This increase was expected after the significant drop recorded due to the global health crisis, which had led to around 45 thousand reports in 2020 and, to a lesser extent, just over 55 thousand in 2021," he explained.

It is important to underline that the reports refer to occupational diseases and not to sick workers, who amount to about 49 thousand. In fact, a single worker can have multiple reports for the different pathologies he suffers from.
