Rome Police Chief Adopts Severe Measures Against Those Responsible for Fascist Apology

Severe measures against the apologia of fascism

The Rome police commissioner has adopted sixteen DASPO measures against as many people accused of violating the rules that prohibit behaviors apologetic of fascism. These measures were issued after a careful analysis of the activities of some individuals, already reported in the last two years during the commemorations of Acca Larentia. The people affected by the DASPO come from various Italian cities, including Rome, Milan, Naples, Salerno, Caserta and Avellino, demonstrating that the phenomenon is not limited to a single geographical area.

Who are the recipients of the measures?

Among the sixteen subjects hit by the daspo, there are also fans of the two Roman football teams and Napoli. This highlights how the problem of the apologia of fascism can be intertwined with the world of sport, where sometimes unacceptable behaviors occur. The measures adopted by the police commissioner are not only a response to isolated episodes, but represent a clear signal of zero tolerance towards any form of extremism and ideological violence. Three of these measures have a duration of six years, aggravated by the obligation to sign in at the police stations, while the other thirteen vary from one to two years.

The regulatory and social context

The rules prohibiting the apology of fascism were introduced to ensure a climate of respect and tolerance within Italian society. However, their application often clashes with the reality of behaviors that, although sporadic, can have a significant impact on social cohesion. The authorities are intensifying controls and investigations to prevent the spread of extremist ideologies, and the recent measures by the police chief of Rome represent an important step in this direction. It is essential that civil society joins these initiatives, promoting a culture of respect and inclusion, so that episodes of violence and discrimination have no place in our country.
