Following pressure from parliament and its American ally, South Korea's president has withdrawn the martial law decree

In South Korea a real chaos broke out between the president and the Parliament. During yesterday, Yoon Suk Yeol had proclaimed the martial law, believing it was necessary to defend South Korea from communist North Korean forces. Congressmen had opposed it en masse: in the end the president did backtrack.

South Korea, martial law decree withdrawn: the president's step back

“I will eradicate the pro-North Korean forces and protect the constitutional democratic order. Through this martial law, I will rebuild and protect the free Republic of Korea” – with these words, Yoon Suk Yeol announced during the day on December 3 the entry into force of martial law in South Korea. The decree was not well received by Parliament which protested en masse. In the hours that followed, Yoon Suk Yeol he retraced his steps and has the decree has been eliminated.
