Seoul, Dec. 3 (Adnkronos/AFP) – South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said martial law will be lifted and troops withdrawn. “Just a moment ago, the National Assembly called for lifting the state of emergency and we have withdrawn the military that was deployed for martial law operations,” Yoon said in a televised speech. “We will accept the National Assembly’s request and lift martial law through the Cabinet meeting.”

In a dramatic televised emergency address to the nation, Yoon announced he would impose martial law, accusing the opposition of paralyzing the government with "anti-state activities." However, 190 lawmakers managed to enter parliament, where they voted unanimously to block the declaration of martial law and call for its lifting. According to the constitution, martial law must be lifted when a majority of parliament requests it.
