A 19 year old boy, of Moroccan origin and resident in Cairo Montenotte, in the province of Savona, took off his life, most likely due to failure to pass the final exam. The tragedy occurred late on Wednesday evening, June 11, 2025, near the railway level crossing on the Savona–Alessandria route, inside aformer power plant now in disuse.

According to initial reconstructions, the triggering reason for the gesture would be linked to school disappointment, but it is not excluded that other personal sufferings were also at the root of the suicide. In support of this hypothesis, a note left by the boy, in which he explained the reasons for his actions.
