Rome, May 14 (Adnkronos) – "Rome has chosen to face the ecological challenge with determination, in the belief that the environmental transition is not a constraint, but an extraordinary opportunity for economic and social relaunch, innovation and the creation of quality employment. We want Rome to increasingly become the Italian capital of the circular economy and sustainability.

Among the many initiatives and interventions promoted, in particular, I would like to underline our commitment to Green Public Procurement and to adopt the Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM) in all procedures for the acquisition of goods, services and works by Rome Capital". This was stated by the mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri in a message sent to the Ecosistemi Foundation, organizer of the Compraverde Forum, a historic event on green purchases, which is being held at Wegil in Rome today and tomorrow.

"We started from a crucial sector such as school canteens - writes Gualtieri - where already in the tender currently in force the Cam have been applied with great success in terms of quality of service. In the new chapter currently being renewed we are further raising the bar: low climate impact menus, valorization of products from social agriculture and the network of quality agricultural work, reduction of food waste, also through the use of out-of-size fruit and vegetables between traceability and transparency of the environmental footprint. The Gpp is active in almost one hundred percent of the tenders for six fundamental product categories with a Cam application equal to 95%".

"The objective is clear: to promote a policy that reduces the extraction of natural resources, greenhouse gas emissions, the use of non-renewable sources, waste production and environmental risk," he adds.

"I would also like to underline the great merit of Forum Compraverde: this event promotes a culture of sustainability, not only for public administrations and professionals. The Forum plays a valuable role in raising public awareness, fostering discussion, promoting good practices, especially in making everyone's responsibility in caring for the environment concrete", he concludes.
