Rome, 4 Feb. (Adnkronos) – Addressing sustainability challenges by translating ESG principles into concrete interventions. This is the goal of ESG Challenge Iren 2025, an event now in its third edition. "Entities like Iren play a key role in promoting ongoing dialogue on sustainability. ESG Challenge Iren 2025 was created precisely as an event to stimulate lively and educational discussion between finance and the academic world, encouraging intergenerational interaction rich in ideas and perspectives", explained Luca Dal Fabbro, president of the Iren Group.

"By involving the main stakeholders and national players operating in the sector, today's event confirms itself as a fundamental reference point in the debate on energy security and sustainable development in Italy", he added.

Iren has presented the most important and urgent sustainability challenges to act on and draw the attention of all its stakeholders in the immediate future. Among the emerging priorities, according to Iren, there is the need to spread a corporate culture based on business ethics, in line with the recent OECD guidelines, promoting a responsible use of artificial intelligence and stimulating a cultural change in institutions and in the market. In a context of constant synergy with the territory in which the company operates, Iren has focused attention on ten challenges that it believes can be affected, with a change of pace, already in 2025, and grouped into four areas, which include the action of companies on the system and on the territory, on the transition and on culture and innovation.

All these aspects were explored in depth in the debate that opened with the speech of Luca Dal Fabbro, president of the Iren Group, and continued with Telmo Pievani, philosopher of science and professor at the University of Padua. This was followed by three round tables dedicated, among others, to ESG finance, just transition and the Iren Territorial Committees, which in 2024 reached ten years of activity and dialogue with local stakeholders. The panel cycle concluded with a speech by the mayor of the city of Turin, Stefano Lo Russo.

The Iren Group has finally awarded the 10 most innovative theses on ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) and sustainability issues, selected from over 450 applications. The awards were given to young students who stood out for the originality and relevance of their papers, dedicated to the sustainable development of communities, the assessment and management of environmental impacts and the implementation of policies to combat climate change. A collection of papers that stands out for the variety of topics addressed, ranging from combating desertification to the issuance of green bonds for sustainable growth, up to case studies on the production of green hydrogen.
