Rome, May 16 (Adnkronos) – “95% of the palm oil imported into Italy is RSPO certified sustainable oil that respects environmental and social criteria and is completely traceable, from the plantation to the mill, to the refinery, to naval transport, to storage in Italy, up to the final consumer.” This is what Vincenzo Tapella, president of the Italian Union for Sustainable Palm Oil, said during the Eiis Summit 2025 in Rome.

“Palm oil is a very versatile oil that can be used – Tapella continues – not only in the food sector but also in the chemical, feed and cosmetics sector. Palm oil is safe and sustainable from an environmental and social point of view. Its characteristics are very good: it has a very high yield, the possibility of being extracted without solvents, of being fractionated physically, so as to be able to have different products suitable for frying, for margarine, for pastry”, adds the expert.

"In the past it has been the subject of fake news or incorrect information, which is why our campaigns have tried to inform consumers correctly, focusing on the sustainability of palm oil. These are not easy campaigns to carry out because despite having important technical-scientific data, it is not easy to communicate the characteristics of sustainable palm oil to the end consumer, for this reason we rely on partners such as the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore which conducts consumer research, we collaborate with non-governmental organizations and with large-scale distribution to ensure that this message of the safety and sustainability of palm oil can reach the end consumer."
