Tajani: "We ask Iran to reactivate direct dialogue with the US"

Brussels, 23 June (askanews) - "I spoke a short while ago with the Iranian Foreign Minister to further urge a reactive action that does not hit US bases, to try to reactivate a dialogue between Iran and the US and I proposed once again Rome as the venue for a meeting". This was stated by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, upon his arrival in Brussels for a meeting of the European Union Foreign Ministers following the US attack on Iran's nuclear sites.

“We are working for a de-escalation. I reiterated that for us Iran can proceed with the search for civil nuclear power, but not military nuclear power, it cannot have the atomic bomb. I also asked not to intervene for the closure of Hormuz, which could have repercussions for the Iranian economy and for other countries, including China. The orientation is to favor a resumption of dialogue with the US in a direct manner. I am also concerned about our compatriots in Iran, the embassy is mobilized, many are leaving for Azerbaijan” added Tajani.
