A garrison that shakes up the Book Fair
During the recent edition of the Turin Book Fair, significant tensions occurred between protesters and law enforcement. A group of activists, united under the committee “Turin for Gaza”, organized a demonstration to express solidarity with the people of Gaza, in a moment of great crisis and conflict.
The event attracted the attention not only of the participants, but also of the visitors of the Salon, creating a climate of uncertainty and concern.
The reaction of the police
When the protesters approached the gate of the Book Fair, they improvised a 'battitura', a symbolic gesture of protest that led to the unveiling of some panels. This act immediately attracted the attention of the police, in particular the mobile police unit, which moved quickly to contain the situation. The officers tried to make the protesters retreat, creating a moment of high tension that highlighted the difficulties in managing demonstrations in such a crowded and significant context as the Book Fair.
Who are the protagonists of the protest?
The mobilization was attended by several groups, including activists from the Collettivo universitari autonomo, Potere al popolo and Rifondazione comunista. These groups joined forces to carry forward a message of peace and justice, stressing the importance of not forgetting the humanitarian crises that afflict the world. Their presence at the Salone del Libro was not only an act of protest, but also an attempt to raise awareness on issues of global relevance, such as the situation in Gaza, which is often overlooked in public debates.
