Roma, 14 mar.
The interventions envisaged by the plan, which will allow to operate with a long-term vision in consideration of the needs of the network, respond to the need to ''develop enabling and innovative infrastructures, functional to the achievement of the efficient target capacity, to increase the transit limits between the market sections and maximize the energy exchange''. The program also envisages ''solving local congestions, ensuring safe operation within the market areas, through the planning of intra-zonal interventions''.
Terna also aims to ''respond efficiently to all requests for connection to the grid by defining a new model, Efficient Territorial Programming''. Finally, ''the stability and safety of the electricity grid and the integration of markets through interconnections with foreign countries will be guaranteed, which allow for flexible and balanced management of energy resources, promoting exchanges between national networks''.
In the time horizon of the 2025 development plan, the majority of the interventions planned to be operational by 2030 have obtained authorization or are already in the authorization phase. These include the company's main infrastructure works, such as Tyrrhenian Link, the 500 kV submarine hvdc connection that will connect Sicily to Campania and Sardinia. ''The work will allow greater integration between the different market areas and a more effective use of energy flows from renewable sources''. The work will be completed by 2028.
Among the main works, Terna highlights Adriatic Link: the 1.000 MW hvdc connection between Abruzzo and Marche, approximately 250 km long, of which 210 km are underwater. It is expected to enter into operation in 2029. Further infrastructure reinforcements are planned by 2034, including the Dorsale Adriatica: a direct current connection between Foggia and Forlì that will guarantee the strengthening of the Adriatic corridor, allowing a substantial increase in exchange capacity.
Terna also plans to build important infrastructures that aim to increase the level of grid security and intra-zonal capacity. These are interventions that promote energy exchange within the same market area, functional to the integration of renewable sources and the resolution of grid congestion at a local level. Among the planned works, three 380 kV connections in Sicily (Chiaramonte Gulfi-Ciminna, Caracoli-Ciminna and Paternò-Priolo) and one in Lombardy (Milan-Brescia).
Terna's 2025 Development Plan aims to extract greater value from existing assets, through 'capital light' interventions, which are based on innovative tools and solutions and which are combined with traditional infrastructure interventions, allowing significant benefits to be achieved for the grid. Terna's activity in planning the future electricity grid can now count on simplified approval procedures for large infrastructures by Arera and Mase. In particular, the Authority, through the phased approval mechanism, has simplified the process by providing tools to speed up the design, authorization and construction process.
Even downstream of the recent regulatory simplifications ''it was possible to achieve a significant reduction in times''. The construction of the infrastructure will also be supported by tools that ensure and guarantee the safety and flexibility of the system. Above all, the Capacity market with which Terna procures capacity through contracts awarded through competitive auctions, and the Macse (Mechanism for the procurement of electric storage capacity). The first Macse auction will be held by Terna on September 30th.
