Rome, 12 Nov. (Adnkronos) – The third edition of the Master “Digitalization of the electrical system for the energy transition” promoted by Terna in collaboration with the Universities of Cagliari, Palermo and Salerno as part of the Tyrrhenian Lab project has been inaugurated, for which the company led by Giuseppina Di Foggia has planned a total investment of 100 million euros from 2022 to 2026.

The inauguration of the Master took place with an event organized simultaneously in the three universities involved. In Cagliari, the Director of Network Development and Dispatching Strategies of Terna, as well as President and Scientific Coordinator of the Tyrrhenian Lab, Francesco Del Pizzo, and the Rector of the University, Prof. Francesco Mola, were present. In Salerno, the Director of Human Resources of Terna, Daniele Amati, the Director of Engineering and Project Implementation of Terna, Maria Rosaria Guarniere, and the Head of the Master, Vincenzo Galdi. Finally, in Palermo, the Director of External Relations and Institutional Affairs of Terna, David Massey, also moderator of the event, and the Deputy Pro-Rector of the University, Prof. Enrico Napoli, participated.

Initiatives such as the Tyrrhenian Lab are fundamental because they consolidate, also through collaboration with universities and centres of excellence, the company's presence in the areas affected by electricity grid development interventions. The Tyrrhenian Lab Master confirms itself as a high-level academic training opportunity for new generations and for professionals in the electricity sector who will join the Terna Group and will be protagonists of the future of energy. The excellent results obtained with the Master confirm that this is a winning model and it is our intention to extend and replicate it in other locations in Italy and abroad”, commented Giuseppina Di Foggia, CEO and General Manager of Terna.

The Tyrrhenian Lab aims to establish a training center of excellence distributed across the three respective cities where the cables of the Tyrrhenian Link will land, Terna's submarine power line that will connect Campania, Sicily and Sardinia, for a total of approximately 970 km of connection, promoting the integration of energy flows from renewable sources.

The project also has a positive impact in terms of employment effectiveness and territorial valorization, confirming the importance that Southern Italy has for Terna, a land with great potential both in terms of infrastructure development and, above all, in terms of skills growth.

The number of applications submitted is growing rapidly: overall, over 350 applications were received, an increase compared to the 170 applications of the first edition and the 300 of the second. Furthermore, 65% of applicants are under 30 years of age, with the majority of profiles (57%) between 25 and 30 years of age.

This year the Master, aimed at candidates from STEM study paths, mainly attracted profiles from Electrical and Energy Engineering (26%), Computer Science (18%) and Modeling and Data Science (8%).

The Master will consist of eleven modules and a project work for a total of 60 training credits and includes personalized paths based on the previous academic experiences of the participants, programming laboratories and practical activities in the field.

Once completed, the students selected with the support of the universities involved will be hired by Terna and will be able to work in the territorial headquarters as experts in algorithms and models for the Electricity Market, analysis and regulation systems for field equipment and Station Automation systems (Sas).
