A bold move in Maremma cuisine
The thieves' plan and the intervention of the carabinieri
The reconstruction of the facts revealed that the thieves had already attempted to enter the restaurant the previous day, but their plan was foiled by the timely intervention of the Carabinieri of Saturnia, alerted by a report. However, the next day, the thieves managed to carry out their plan, taking advantage of the low season, during which the restaurant is only open on weekends. The choice to strike during this period allowed them to act with greater freedom, stealing bottles of very high-quality wine, some of which were valued at tens of thousands of euros.
A theft that repeats itself
This is not the first theft of this kind to hit starred restaurants in Italy. Just a month ago, a similar episode occurred in Lodi, at the La Coldana restaurant, where thieves broke into a window and stole priceless bottles. The situation has raised questions about the security of high-class restaurants, which often house priceless wines. In the case of the Da Caino restaurant, owner Andrea Menichetti worked until late at night to carry out an inventory and quantify the damage, which is estimated to be around 80 thousand euros, including both the damaged wall and the precious cellar.
