A commemorative event
Tomorrow, San Giovanni Rotondo is preparing to experience a moment of great significance with a torchlight procession and a mass in memory of Pope Francis. The initiative, promoted by the Municipality, the friars of the convent of San Pio and the bishop Father Franco Moscone, represents an opportunity to reflect on the spiritual legacy left by the pontiff.
The torchlight procession will start from Piazza dei Martiri, in the heart of the city, to reach the Sanctuary of San Pio, a symbolic place for many faithful.
The celebration of the mass
Once at the Sanctuary, the bishop and the provincial minister of the Capuchin Friars Minor, Fra Francesco Dileo, will celebrate a mass in the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie. This moment of prayer will be an opportunity for citizens to unite in a feeling of gratitude and remembrance for the pontificate of Pope Francis, who has always brought a message of love and peace. The mayor of San Giovanni Rotondo, Filippo Barbano, expressed his appreciation for the prompt adhesion of the bishop and the friars to this initiative, underlining the importance of keeping the memory of the Pope alive.
A special bond with the community
The mayor recalled the meeting he had with Pope Francis in Rome last December, during which the pontiff expressed his desire to return to San Giovanni Rotondo. Although this will not be possible, the images of his visit in 2018, when he embraced the sick of the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza, will remain etched in the collective memory. Tomorrow, the community is invited to actively participate in this commemoration, which represents not only a tribute to the Pope, but also a moment of reflection on his message of peace and hope in the world.
Parishes and local associations have been invited to join in this celebration, which promises to be an important demonstration of faith and unity for the citizens of San Giovanni Rotondo. Community participation will be essential to pay homage to a pontificate that touched the hearts of many.
