A significant event for the community
The torchlight procession that took place in San Giovanni Rotondo represented a moment of great emotion and participation for the local community. Organized by the municipality and the Friars of the Convent of San Pio, the initiative saw the presence of the bishop Father Franco Moscone, who led the faithful in this act of devotion.
The choice to commemorate Pope Francis, who passed away on Easter Monday, has a profound meaning for the participants, many of whom had the opportunity to meet him personally.
The mayor's testimony
Mayor Filippo Barbano expressed his strong bond with the Pope, recalling the meeting that took place in Rome last December. “It is a moment that we cared a lot about,” he said. “Together with the friars and the provincial minister, Fra Francesco Dileo, we decided to organize this shared moment. Pope Francis deserves it.” These words reflect the feeling of gratitude and affection that the community has for the Pope, who visited San Giovanni Rotondo in 2018.
Union and spirituality
The torchlight procession saw the participation of many faithful, united in a climate of prayer and reflection. The procession wound through the streets of the center, culminating in the celebration of a Mass at the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie. This moment of recollection allowed the participants to express their condolences and gratitude for Pope Francis' service to the Church and to the entire world. The community proved to be united and supportive, ready to honor the memory of a spiritual leader who touched the lives of many people.
