(Adnkronos) – Homeopathy does not cure cancer, but it can be useful, together with other treatments, in reducing a series of disorders due to cancer treatment and thus promote the effectiveness of conventional treatments. This is what the experts who met today in Milan at the event 'Integrative oncology: the role of homeopathy' say. Recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a system of care that uses homeopathic medicines recommended by health professionals, homeopathic treatment is in fact able to respond to a medical need that concerns, in the case of cancer treatments, symptoms such as persistent nausea, tiredness, but also anxiety. “A global and integrative approach, which combines conventional treatments and complementary medicines, puts the cancer patient at the center, helping to improve their quality of life and compliance with treatments,” says Silvia Nencioni, president and CEO of Boiron Italia. Recent French studies show how the use of homeopathy in these patients leads to a 50-70% decrease in disabling side effects and a reduction of up to 30% in conventional drugs usually used to manage these disorders.

In the oncology context, therefore, integrated medicine, also offered in Tuscany by the National Health Service, presents itself as an evolution of the medical model because it combines, in a coordinated approach, conventional and complementary medicine, accompanying patients to improve their quality of life, without interfering with conventional treatments and promoting the continuity of therapies. "In addition to being effective" in resolving "the disorders caused by anti-cancer therapies - explains Elio Rossi, homeopathic doctor and head of the Regional Center for Integrated Medicine Tuscany Region - having no adverse effects and not weighing on the purification system that the body has at the liver and kidney level, homeopathy, in these patients, offers a double advantage: certain effects in safety".

In the pharmacy, patients who are undergoing an oncology treatment ask for advice on "how to manage the small and large side effects that the therapies cause - underlines Sara Zucca, a pharmacist expert in homeopathy - such as nausea, vomiting, mouth ulcers, skin ulcers. In all of this, homeopathy has always given us great results because it gives us the peace of mind of not interfering with the therapy and of not having side effects". These aspects "are important - concludes Marco Lauro, head of the Scientific Service of Boiron Italia

– because they contribute to improving the patient's quality of life, reducing side effects and also increasing adherence to all conventional therapeutic protocols to fight cancer".
