Rome, May 15 (Adnkronos Salute) – "During Covid we talked about the oncological emergency and we indicated a series of initiatives that needed to be taken, but they were not taken. The National Health Service needed to be adapted to meet the needs of cancer patients, as indicated by the European Commission which said at the time that 2025 million people needed to be saved by 2,8 so that the impact on health systems did not increase.
The Commission indicated the European Oncology Plan as a reference, as a path with times and activities. Italy has started the national plan, but without providing funding. The 10 million allocated are not enough, it means 1,3 million for Lombardy and 270 thousand euros for Basilicata. Either we invest in healthcare or we settle for small remedies. The ideal was to take the resources from the ESM". This is what Francesco De Lorenzo, president of Favo, told Adnkronos Salute, on the sidelines of the presentation to the Chamber of the 17th Report on the healthcare conditions of cancer patients promoted by the Italian Federation of Volunteer Associations in Oncology.
"The oncology community to which we belong has indicated the guidelines, but there is no funding. I have not even seen a commitment from the opposition, the responsibilities are a bit of everyone", concluded De Lorenzo.
