Adnkronos Washington, April 28 (Adnkronos) – US President Donald Trump said he believes Volodymyr Zelensky is ready to give up Crimea, despite the Ukrainian president's previous statements about the Black Sea peninsula, annexed by Russia in 2014, which he does not intend to give up. Speaking to reporters at a New Jersey airport, Trump responded positively to the question of whether he believed Zelensky was ready to "give up" the territory: "I think so," the tycoon said.
Zelensky said last week that Ukraine could not accept U.S. recognition of Russia's annexation of Crimea, after Trump accused him of intransigence on the issue. Zelensky insisted on Friday that the territory "belongs to the Ukrainian people." Despite those comments, the U.S. president expressed newfound sympathy for his Ukrainian counterpart, saying that he "wants to do something good for his country" and is "working hard."
