Ultras trial, the verdict arrives: sentences for the 16 defendants, compensation for Inter and Milan

The judge, in the bunker courtroom in front of the Milanese prison of San Vittore, read the judgment since ultra trial with an abbreviated trial, behind closed doors, with several tranches, including those on the two criminal associations, on the Bellocco murder and on the attempted murder of the AC Milan fan Enzo Anghinelli.

The investigations 

The trial was against 16 ultras, between the curve leaders and their associates and arose from the investigations of the prosecutors of the Milan DDA Paolo Storari and Sara Ombra of the Prosecutor's Office directed by Marcello Viola, which had led to the maxi "double curve" blitz in September by the Police and the Guardia di Finanza with 19 arrests. 

Presidium outside the classroom 

As the first degree trial was concluding, outside the bunker courtroom the Rossoneri ultras of the Curva Sud organized a solidarity demonstration. For Beretta the Prosecutor's Office had asked for 9 years, while for Lucci the same prosecutors had asked for 10 years.

Milan fans gathering

- Rossoneri ultras they gathered in the early afternoon in front of the bunker courtroom of San Vittore, in Piazza Filangeri in Milan, where the judgment of one of the processes with shortened procedure arising from the major investigation by the Milan Public Prosecutor's Office into the San Siro curves. Among the 16 defendants, including the head of the Sud, Luca Lucci, who was sentenced to ten years. The fans displayed a banner that read: “Ultras, friendship, loyalty, brotherhood, aggregation. We are the Curva Sud, we are not an association”.

The sentences

He was convicted at ten years old Andrea Beretta, former head of the Inter Curva Nord and collaborator of justice, accused of having killed Antonio Bellocco, also a member of the Nerazzurri ultras' board and a scion of the 'ndrangheta clan, and of criminal association with mafia aggravating circumstances. 

Ten years of prison also for Luca Lucci, head of the Milanese Curva Sud accused of instigating the attempted murder of ultra Enzo Anghinelli and of criminal association.

Compensation to Inter and Milan 

The judge also recognized compensation against the defendants, for financial and image damages, in favor of the civil parties Lega Serie A, with the lawyer Salvatore Pino, Inter, with lawyers Francesco Mucciarelli, Adriano Raffaelli and Caroline Hassoun, and Milan, with the lawyer Enrico de Castiglione. For the Serie A League, an immediately enforceable provisional amount was recognized 20mila euros, for the two clubs from 50 thousand euros each. Other convictions 

In addition to the convictions of the ultra leaders Andrea Beretta and Luca Lucci, the Milan preliminary hearing judge also sentenced 14 other defendants, including Lucci's deputy in the Curva Sud, Daniele Cataldo, also considered the material perpetrator of the 10 attempted murder of AC Milan fan Enzo Anghinelli, also sentenced to 2019 years in prison. Marco Ferdico, also one of the leaders of the Nord board before his arrests last September, was sentenced to 8 years, as requested by the DDA prosecutor Paolo Storari.

The judge recognized all the charges contested by the Milanese DDA, including criminal associations, one with the aggravating circumstance of mafia. She did not recognize only one charge of extortion, among the many charges. The GUP recognized a provisional payment for the family of Antonio Bellocco, a member of the 'ndrangheta and in the Curva Nord board, killed by Beretta in September.former ultras leader to be compensated with 520 thousand euros.

All sentences for a total of 90 years in prison

With the sentence, the judge imposed sentences for a total of approximately 90 years of prison. Among the ultras of the red and black South Alessandro Sticco was also sentenced to 5 years, Fabiano Capuzzo to 4 years and 4 months, Islam Hagag to 3 years and 4 months, as was Luciano Romano.

Among ultras of the Inter Nord Also sentenced were Renato Bosetti, to 4 years, Giuseppe Caminiti, to 5 years and linked, according to the investigations, to the 'ndrangheta, Gianfranco Ferdico, Marco's father, to 4 years and 8 months, Christian Ferrario, to 6 years, presumed "custodian" of the Beretta weapons arsenal and of the curve.

5 years for Francesco Intagliata, 4 years for Mauro Nepi, 4 years and 8 months for Matteo Norrito and 2 years, suspended sentence, for Debora Turiello, the only woman accused and who, according to the prosecution, managed the Nord cash desk and the ticket chapter.

For the ultras, in general, the sentences were lower than those requested by the DDA. For example, for Turiello the Prosecutor had requested 5 years. A provisional compensation was also awarded to the ultra Anghinelli, victim of the attempted murder.

Three plea bargains were ratified by the preliminary hearing judge in other cases, including that of the entrepreneur Gherardo Zaccagni, who managed the parking lots outside the San Siro stadium and was accused, among other things, of a hypothesis of corruption between private individuals with the regional and municipal councilor of Milan Manfredi Palmeri, who chose the immediate trial, which is underway in another case. In two days the Court ruling, before the sixth criminal court, for others three Milan ultras always arrested in September.
