Rome, May 15 (Adnkronos/Labitalia) – The theoretical and practical internship of the 80 first-year students of the new degree course in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Rome Tor Vergata began a few days ago at the Roman headquarters of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Lazio e Toscana (Izslt) in via Appia Nuova. Accompanied by Antonio Palladino, professor of Anatomy at the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the Department of Clinical Sciences and Translational Medicine, the students had the opportunity to observe, in a real necropsy room, the diagnostic activities, participate in practical necropsy sessions and interact with veterinarians and specialists of the Izslt, entering the heart of the daily activities of the Institute.

During the days, samples and organs from different species were analyzed, including foal, pig, sheep and cattle, with a specific focus on the study of bovine hearts to deepen anatomical knowledge and pathological evaluation techniques. The activity is part of the agreement signed between Izslt and the University of Rome Tor Vergata, an agreement aimed at promoting scientific and educational collaboration between the two institutions, to integrate theoretical training with practical experiences and strengthen the preparation of students in line with the needs of veterinary public health.

“At a time when the complexity of health and ecological crises requires integrated responses, training a veterinarian does not only mean transmitting technical skills: it means accompanying students on a path that puts them in contact with the concrete reality of the profession right from the start”. Says Nathan Levialdi Ghiron, rector of the University of Rome Tor Vergata. "The internship at the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale Lazio e Toscana represents a valuable training opportunity, because it allows you to closely observe the work in the field and understand the role that public veterinary health plays in protecting collective health. Experiences like this strengthen a teaching that is not limited to the classroom, but opens to collaboration between institutions, enhancing the connection between knowledge and responsibility, between study and service. The Izslt with its scientific and territorial function, confirms itself as a very important interlocutor, with which we share the goal of training professionals who are prepared, aware and ready to contribute in a concrete way to the well-being of society. It is in this dialogue between training and practice, between university and territory, that the public health of the future is built".

"We are enthusiastic - comments Stefano Palomba, extraordinary commissioner of the Izslt - about this interinstitutional collaboration that has started in recent days. This initiative offers students a concrete training experience, which integrates and completes the university path. The Izslt is dedicated to training and research, and strengthening the link between academic knowledge and practice in the field is essential for the professional growth of future veterinarians. Thanks to this agreement with the University of Rome Tor Vergata, students will acquire essential practical skills and will have the opportunity to interact with a reference reality for animal and public health. They will be, if they want, public veterinarians, on the front line in the defense against zoonoses and diseases of veterinary interest on the national territory, thus preparing themselves to become competent and aware professionals.
