An initiative to give voice to young people
On the occasion of the World Day of People with Down Syndrome, the Italian Association of People with Down Syndrome (Aipd) has launched a communication campaign that aims to give space to the testimonies of those who live this reality on a daily basis. The campaign, which begins on March 11, is divided into a series of short videos in which people with Down syndrome express their needs and desires.
Among the protagonists, Emanuele, Roberta, Gianni and Sergio, who tell their challenges and hopes, underlining the importance of continuous and adequate support.
Concrete requests for a better future
Each testimony is a plea to improve existing support systems. Emanuele, for example, complains about the lack of continuity in teaching, while Roberta highlights the difficulties in public transportation. Gianni asks for shorter waiting times for medical visits, while Sergio, despite his dancing skills, faces a lack of job opportunities. These requests are not just complaints, but represent a desire for autonomy and independent living, a fundamental goal for Aipd.
The role of the association and the online course
Gianfranco Salbini, national president of Aipd, emphasizes the importance of the protagonism of people with Down syndrome. “It is no longer time to speak for them,” he says, highlighting the need to listen to their suggestions to build a better world. Aipd is committed to ensuring that every request is heard and considered, promoting the active participation of these people. With this in mind, the association has launched the online course “Ali – Independent Life,” which offers tools and resources for family members and professionals, with the aim of creating effective educational paths for young people and adults with Down syndrome.
